The Union Public Service Commission has officially announced a massive 2026 recruitment Notification (Advt. No. 03/2026) to fill 05 Scientist-B (Mechanical), Scientific Officer (Non-Destructive), Superintending Archaeological Engineer, Assistant Professor vacancies. The applicants satisfying the requisite qualification may apply through ONLINE MODE only, Apply Online on the official Web-site of this Union Public Service Commission i.e. https://upsc.gov.in/. The online application portal will be opened on 25.04.2026 for filling online applications and the date for closing the online application interface is 15.05.2026.

Eligible candidates with qualifications B.E/B.Tech, M.Sc can apply online. Candidates should note that the primary Job locations for these posts are Kolkata. Registered candidates will receive a link to download their exam hall tickets via email approximately 4 to 7 days prior to the examination date.

UPSC Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification for UPSC:

  1. Scientist-B (Mechanical)
    • Essential Qualification: (i) Master’s Degree in Physics from a recognized University or Institute; and (ii) One year practical experience in the testing/ calibration of engineering materials/ products or in precision measurements/metrology in a recognized laboratory or institute. OR (i) Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgical Engineering from a recognized University or Institute; and (ii) Two years’ practical experience in the testing/calibration of engineering materials/ products or in precision measurements/metrology in a recognized laboratory or institute.
    • Desirable Qualification: Research and Development experience in testing of engineering materials and metrology/calibration of instruments and machines.
  2. Scientific Officer (Non-Destructive)
    • Essential Qualification: (i) Master’s Degree in Physics or Degree in Electrical Engineering or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Metallurgy from a recognized University or Institute; and (ii) One years’ experience in Non-Destructive testing Laboratory OR One years’ experience in X-Ray Diffraction or investigation work on failure Engineering Material by Non-Destructive and metallographic methods of testing.
    • Experience: Eight years’ experience in Planning, Execution and Supervision of Civil Engineering works in Government Sector or any Archaeological or Heritage Sites.
  3. Superintending Archaeological Engineer
    • Essential Qualification:: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized University or institute
  4. Assistant Professor
    • Essential Qualification::  Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering and Master of Engineering/Master of Technology in Civil Engineering (Geo Informatics/ Geoinformatics and Surveying Technology) with first class or equivalent either in Bachelor of Engineering/Bachelor of Technology or Master of Engineering/Master of Technology.

Age Limit for UPSC: (As on 15.05.2026)

  1. Scientist-B (Mechanical) – 35 years
  2. Scientific Officer (Non-Destructive) – 33 years
  3. Superintending Archaeological Engineer – 40 years 
  4. Assistant Professor – 38 years

Relaxation of Upper age limit: 

  • +5 Years for ST/SC  
  • +3 Years for OBC (NCL)  
  • Persons with Disabilities candidate:
    • +10 Years for UR  
    • +13 Years for OBC (NCL)
