UPSC Senior Scientific Assistant Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:  

1. Post Harvest Technologist
Essential Qualifications:
Educational: Masters degree in Post-Harvest Technology or Food Science and Nutrition or Food Technology from a recognized University or Institute with National Eligibility Test qualification.
Experience: Five years regular experience in Post Harvest Management in the field of Horticulture or Agriculture from Central Government or State Government or Union Territory Administration or public sector undertaking or statutory autonomous organization or recognized research institution or Universities
2. Senior Scientific Assistant (Aeronautical) –
Essential Qualifications:
Educational: Degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Technology from any recognized University OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.) OR Associate Member of Aeronautical Society of India (AMASI) (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.)
Experience: One year experience in relevant field i.e. Aeronautical from a recognized organization.
3. Senior Scientific Assistant (Chemical) –
Essential Qualifications:
Educational: Degree in Chemical Engineering/Technology from any recognized University plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Chemical from a recognized organization OR Master’s Degree in Chemistry from any recognized University OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Chemical from a recognized organization. (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.)
4. Senior Scientific Assistant (Computer) – Essential Qualifications: Educational: Degree in Computer Engineering or Technology from any recognized University plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Computer from a recognized organization OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science from any recognized University OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Computer from a recognized organization. (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.)
5. Senior Scientific Assistant (Electronics) –
Essential Qualifications:
Educational: Degree in Electronics Engineering or Technology from any recognized University plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Electronics from a recognized organization OR Master’s Degree in Electronics or in Physics with Electronics as a special subject OR Degree from Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Electronics from a recognized organization (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.) OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) plus one year experience in the relevant field i.e. Electronics from a recognized organization (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.)
6. Senior Scientific Assistant (Metallurgy) –
Educational: Degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Technology from any recognized University OR Associate Member of Indian Institute of Metals (AMIIM) (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.) OR Associate Member of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.)
Experience: One year experience in relevant field i.e. Metallurgy from a recognized organization.
7. Deputy Central Intelligence Officer (Technical)(DCIO/Tech) –
Essential Qualifications: Educational: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (B.E. or B.Tech) or B.Sc (Engg) awarded by a recognized University in the fields of Electronics or Electronics & Communication or Electronics and Telecommunications or Computer Science or Computer Engineering or Computer Technology or Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology or Software Engineering; OR Associate Membership of Institute of Engineers (AMIE) in Electronics and Communication Engineering or Graduate Ship awarded by Associate Membership of Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (AMIETE) in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (Only those students who were enrolled with Institutions with permanent recognition up to 31.05.2013 would be eligible.) OR Master of Science in Physics with Electronics or Telecommunications OR Master of Computer Applications (MCA) after three years Bachelor of Science in Physics or Master of Science (Information Technology) or Master of Science (Computer Science) or Master of Science (Software) from a recognized University.
8. Junior Scientific Officer (Biology) –
Educational: Masters Degree in Botany or Zoology or Microbiology or Biotechnology or Biochemistry or Physical Anthropology or Genetics or Forensic Science with Botany or Zoology as one of the subjects during all the three years of Bachelor of Science level from a recognised university OR B.E or B. Tech. in Biotechnology from a recognised university. Experience: Three years experience in research and analytical work in the field of Biology in any Central and State Organisation or recognised institute or university or forensic science laboratories under Central Govt. and State Govt.
DESIRABLE: Experience of working in a forensic science laboratory.
9. Specialist Grade III (Anaesthesiology) –
Educational: (i) A recognized MBBS degree qualification included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule (other than licentiate qualifications) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). Holders of Educational qualifications included in Part II of the Third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). (ii) Post-Graduate degree or diploma in the concerned speciality or super speciality mentioned in Section-A or Section-B of Schedule VI or equivalent i.e. Doctor of Medicine (Anaesthesiology); or Master of Surgery (Anaesthesiology); or Diplomate National Board (Anaesthesiology); or Post Graduate Diploma in Anaesthesiology
Experience: At least three years’ experience in the concerned Specialty or Super Specialty after obtaining the Post Graduate degree or five years’ experience in the concerned Specialty or Super Specialty after obtaining the Post Graduate diploma.
10. Specialist Grade III (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) –
Educational: (i) A recognized MBBS degree qualification included in the First Schedule or Second Schedule or Part II of the Third Schedule (other than licentiate qualifications) to the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). Holders of Educational qualifications included in Part II of the Third Schedule should also fulfill the conditions specified in sub-section (3) of section 13 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956). (ii) Post-Graduate degree or diploma in the concerned speciality or super speciality mentioned in Section-A or Section-B of Schedule VI of CHS Rules, 2014 and CHS amendment Rules, 2019 i.e. Doctor of Medicine (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation); or Diplomate of National Board (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation); OR Doctor of Medicine (Medicine) /Diplomate National Board(Medicine) with Diploma in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; OR Master of Surgery (General Surgery)/ Master of Surgery (Orthopaedics)/ Diplomate National Board (General Surgery/Orthopaedics) with two years’ special training in the Speciality of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (Rehabilitation Medicine or two years of equivalent training approved in the subject in any approved institution in India OR Post Graduate diploma in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Experience: At least three years’ experience in the concerned Specialty or Super Specialty after obtaining the Post Graduate degree or five years’ experience in the concerned Specialty or Super Specialty after obtaining the Post Graduate diploma.

Age Limit: (As on 31.08.2023)

1. Post Harvest Technologist – 40 years.
2. Senior Scientific Assistant (Aeronautical) – 30 years.
3. Senior Scientific Assistant (Chemical) – 30 years.
4. Senior Scientific Assistant (Computer) – 33 years.
5. Senior Scientific Assistant (Electronics) – 33 years.
6. Senior Scientific Assistant (Metallurgy) – 30 years.
7. Deputy Central Intelligence Officer (Technical)(DCIO/Tech) – 35 years.
8. Junior Scientific Officer (Biology) – 30 years.
9. Specialist Grade III (Anaesthesiology) – 40 years.
10. Specialist Grade III (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) – 40 years.

The Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC, 10 Years for Persons with Disabilities (15 years for SC/ST PWD’s & 13 years for OBC PWD’s) and for Ex-S as per Govt. of India rules. 1. Post Harvest Technologist – Level- 11 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
2. Senior Scientific Assistant (Aeronautical) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
3. Senior Scientific Assistant (Chemical) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
4. Senior Scientific Assistant (Computer) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
5. Senior Scientific Assistant (Electronics) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
6. Senior Scientific Assistant (Metallurgy) – Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
7. Deputy Central Intelligence Officer (Technical)(DCIO/Tech) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.
8. Junior Scientific Officer (Biology) – Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.

UPSC may follow the following process to select the candidates.

Application Fee/Exam Fee for UPSC Senior Scientific Assistant: 

(a) Candidates (Except Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability Candidates who are exempted from payment of fee) are required to pay a fee of Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty five) only either by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of any bank or by using Visa/Master/Rupay/Credit/Debit Card/UPI payment.
(b) No fee for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates of any community. No “fee exemption” is available to Gen/OBC/EWS male candidates and they are required to pay the full prescribed fee.
